NOTES OF INTEREST:

Just Crochet/Craft Idea's: It's been a very long time since I have posted anything to my Blog. Due to family and life in general, I got a little detoured. I will try to get time to type up some new entries. I have created a lot of items, gave them away and did not take pictures or type them up. We lost both of our boys this year. Jiggy in March and Stubby in July. We have a new friend her name is MayBee (due to the fact that we weren't quite sure about keeping her). She's 4 years old and full of energy. I make her Kitty Strings with yarn, it was such a hit, I donated some to the local animal shelter. I'll try to put them on the Blog next week. As usual, if you have questions about crafting or crochet, I will answer them under the post where you leave the comment. Thanks for stopping by. Birdie

Boucle/Terry Blankie, Hat and Booties

This is a very special crochet pattern gift for a very special person. I have an aquaintance, who has a best girl friend that fell in love with a special guy. Best friend got pregnant, the guy panicked and ran. She turned to her family for help. The family tried to convince her to have an abortion. She couldn't do it, she was healthy and didn't believe in it. Her family mocked her, her siblings called her a whore. So my girl aquaintance is helping her out with non-judgemental support, love and advice. This brought back many dark memories from my past and I had to do, what I do best, for her. Wahla! Baby Blanket, Hat and Booties. My hope is someone will make these for someone else that just needs a little support.

  1. Is it difficult to work with this kind of yarn? Does it get tangled easily

    1. Boucle is a little more difficult than regular ww, but after 2 or 3 rows, it flys by. You get used to the stitch and you can substitute a ww wool or mohair. The picture on the blog header is a spread I made out of the same type of yarn. I looked at your blog Chris and you are wonderful, I don't think you'll have any problems. Birdie

  2. May God bless your friend and her precious baby. Please know that I will be praying for her and want her to know that she is loved and applauded for her courage. She will need the support of friends in the coming months and years. Thank you for sharing her story. It is my intention to make the blanket (and maybe the hat and booties too) to donate to a crisis pregnancy center.

    1. Thank you for the encouragement. The pregnancy center donation is a terrific idea. I hope others join you and I probably will as soon as I catch up with my great grand baby stuff. Birdie

  3. Prayers for the woman and her baby...so glad she decided against abortion and so very sad for her lousy family. Nice blanket too.

  4. This story just touched my heart. I will be making this set for our local pregancy center. I always feel that - when one door closes another opens- and this sure is the case here.

Thank you and God Bless, Carole from Oregon

    1. I'll tell you another. I went through the same mess about 100 years ago and a few understanding people kept me on my feet. Thank you for pointing out the HEART of the story. Have fun crocheting, Birdie

  5. Your story touched me as well. I have been looking for a pattern to make for my friend having her second baby. I had some questions about the amount of yarn needed and the working with 2 strands together. I have never done this before. Do you just start with 2 strands? As for the yarn is it 3 different kinds or just 2? Is the cream colored stein larger than the lavender and that is why you only need one stein? Are the yarns both the same weight? I have been crocheting for a while but have never worked with 2 strands of yarn before. Anyone that can answer please help. Do you know of any instructional videos on YouTube that might help.
    Thanks

  6. Working 2 strands together is pretty simple and I don't know of instructions on it. Get your yarns side by side and make sure they both pull out smoothly. Make a slip knot the same way you do with 1 strand holding both yarns together the same way you do one strand. The Cream yarn has 11 oz. in a skein and the Lavender has 1.75 oz. per skein that is why you only need 1 skein of cream. The yarn is worsted weight but furzy in both cases. Fuzzy yarn is hard to work with and I suggest a soft worsted weight or less fuzzy baby yarn for the first one. Good Luck, Birdie
