NOTES OF INTEREST:

Just Crochet/Craft Idea's: It's been a very long time since I have posted anything to my Blog. Due to family and life in general, I got a little detoured. I will try to get time to type up some new entries. I have created a lot of items, gave them away and did not take pictures or type them up. We lost both of our boys this year. Jiggy in March and Stubby in July. We have a new friend her name is MayBee (due to the fact that we weren't quite sure about keeping her). She's 4 years old and full of energy. I make her Kitty Strings with yarn, it was such a hit, I donated some to the local animal shelter. I'll try to put them on the Blog next week. As usual, if you have questions about crafting or crochet, I will answer them under the post where you leave the comment. Thanks for stopping by. Birdie

Birdie's Baby Blanket

Birdie’s Baby Blanket
By Berta Gilholm

Material: Lion Brand
Vanna’s Choice, Baby Lamb #840098
Vanna’s Choice, Oatmeal #860400
Vanna’s Choice, Taupe Mist #860302
Vanna’s Choice, Grey Marble #860401
Vanna’s Choice, SeaSpray Mist #860304
Crochet Hook size US I/9, 5.5mm
Yarn Needle

Blanket with Baby Boy, "Declan"

Traditional Basic Granny Square:
Note: This pattern uses a new color on each row so you can use any color that suits your taste. To make 2 rows of 1 color, work row 1 of pattern, do not fasten off, work dc in stitches over to the corner, Slst at the end of row into the first st of row 1 and ch 3 and continue in established pattern.
Important: You want 4 increases on each side for each row so, make sure you work the very first stitch of each row after the corner or you’ll end up with 3 increases on each row instead of 4.
If you would like to make the Cute Baby Bear, I used a pattern from Bernat Cottontots Teddy Toy. I wanted it a little bigger so, I used my leftover Vanna’s Choice yarn with a size US H/8, 5mm and added 2 sc stitches plus 1 extra row to both the head and body, added 1sc plus 1 extra row to arms and legs, added 2 sc plus 1 extra row to ears, kept the muzzle, tummy and tail the same as pattern. I also made a quick little scarf to tie around the neck (use whatever measurements you feel comfortable with.

  2. Today, while I was at work, my sister stole my apple ipad and tested
to see if it can survive a forty foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation.
My apple ipad is now destroyed and she has 83 views.
I know this is entirely off topic but I had to share
    it with someone!

  3. Wonderful blog! Do you have any recommendations for aspiring writers?
I'm planning to start my own website soon but I'm a little
lost on everything. Would you recommend starting with a free platform like Wordpress or go
for a paid option? There are so many choices
out there that I'm completely overwhelmed .. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    1. I'm a crafter and of course, love crochet and any other needlecraft. I'm not much of a writer, although I did do a small poem book when I worked for an adult rec. center. I like the Google Blog and it's free. I got burnt on face book, so quit and don't see many wordpress success stories. I think you should start free/or reasonable on cost and see how it goes. Write from the heart, without judgement and criticism; also, make it interesting and leave a place for feedback. Birdie

    1. Question? What does a bucket truck have to do with a baby blanket?? For blog help, I would go into the template and play with background and foreground color. Your truck is nice, but, your blog is basically black and white. You can change the back ground by adding a colorful funky picture to get someone's attention. Write a little something interesting about why you sell bucket trucks, how you got started, why you do it, why I as a customer might want one, etc. You can also get ideas in google. I don't sell on my blog, it's free. For you I will leave this comment up for a week, as a courtesy. Then it's "delete city". Good Luck, Birdie

  6. GUESS WHAT! I have the same New Year's Resolution as you....unfortunately I have had the same one for the last 10 years and has done no good yet...at this point I have decided I am the crafter/seamstress/crocheter that will win the prize in Heaven for having the most unfinished projects, and them most uncut fabric in my craft room as well as the largest stock of uncut and unused yarn...I need to learn to shop my own craft room before going to the store...perhaps that should be my Resolution Ya' Think! Am so Glad I found this site...Kat

    1. Thanks for the encouragement! Maybe we ought to start a s-"crap" swap club. Like, taking pictures of the unused craft stuff we have in groups of colors/style, etc and see if anyone wants to swap one pile of s-"crap" for another. Love your sense of humor, honesty and comments. Birdie
