Crochet Red White and Blue of course!
These 2 projects came from my patriotism spot, which is way down there in my "what do I do now spot". Sometimes, in between holidays, I get bored and start looking around the internet for idea's. These were the results of that urge for Vet's day and 4th of July. If you try them you have plenty of time to set up for a celebration, even if it isn't one of those 2 days Enjoy!
4th of July Hat

Materials: Sugar’n Cream 100% Cotton 4ply
1 Red, 1 White, 1 Blue (any shade light or dark)
Crochet Hook (5.5mm, US I or 9) and (5mm, US H or 8)
Gauge with size I hook: 10 hdc = 3’’, 6 hdc rows = 3’’
Stars: 21/2” x 21/2”
Stars: 21/2” x 21/2”
Finished Size: 21 inches around head, 61/2” across top, Brim 4”
Instructions:
Top Cap Red Stripe:
Using Red, make a slip knot for a ring and sc once in ring,
Rnd 1: Ch 2 counts as first hdc, Hdc 11 times around in ring, join with slip stitch (slst) to first ch 2 (12 hdc)
Rnd 2: Ch 2 counts as first hdc, Hdc in same space as ch 2, 2 Hdc in each hdc around, join with slst to first ch 2 (24 hdc)
Rnd 3: Ch 2 counts as first hdc, 2 Hdc in next hdc, *1 Hdc in next hdc, 2 Hdc in next hdc, Repeat from * around, join with slst to first ch 2 (36 hdc)
Rnd 4: Ch 2 counts as first hdc, Hdc in next 2 hdc, 2 Hdc in next hdc, *1 Hdc in each of next 3 hdc, 2 Hdc in next hdc, Repeat from * around, join with slst to first ch 2 (45 hdc)
Rnd 5: Ch 2 counts as first hdc, Hdc in next 4 hdc, 2 Hdc in next hdc, *1 Hdc in each of next 5 hdc, 2 Hdc in next hdc, Repeat from * 5 times, Hdc in next 3 hdc, join with slst to first ch 2 (52 hdc)
Rnd 6: Ch 2 counts as first hdc, Hdc in next 6 hdc, 2 Hdc in next hdc, *1 Hdc in each of next 7 hdc, 2 Hdc in next hdc, Repeat from * 4 times, Hdc in next 4 hdc, join with slst to first ch 2 (58 hdc)
Rnd 7: Ch 2 counts as first hdc, Hdc in same space as ch 2, Hdc in next 5 hdc, 2 Hdc in next hdc, *1 Hdc in each of next 6 hdc, 2 Hdc in next hdc, Repeat from * 6 times, Hdc in next hdc, join with slst to first ch 2 (66 hdc)
Rnd 8: Ch 2 counts as first hdc, Hdc in next hdc and each hdc around, join with slst to first ch 2 (66 hdc)
Rnd 9 - 11: Repeat row 8 (66 hdc) fasten off red and weave in ends.
Bottom Cap Blue Stripe:
With Blue and size I hook, join in any red hdc,
Rnd 12: Ch 2 counts as hdc, Hdc in each hdc around, join with slst to first ch 2 (66 hdc)
Rnd 13 - 17: Repeat Round 12 (66 hdc)
Fasten off Blue and make and sew on stars.
Using White and size G hook, ch 3, will count as first hdc,
Round 1: 9 Hdc in third ch from hook, sl st in top of beg ch 3 (10 hdc)
Round 2: *Ch 5, sl st in second ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, join with a slip stitch in next hdc on first row, slst in next hdc, Repeat from * 4 times, fasten off and weave in ends.
Round 2: *Ch 5, sl st in second ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, join with a slip stitch in next hdc on first row, slst in next hdc, Repeat from * 4 times, fasten off and weave in ends.

Attach Stars for Star Round:
Note: Sew each star, tip to tip, where the Red part meets the Blue part of the hat, as follows:
Thread yarn needle with white yarn and sew the top side of the middle two star arms to the middle of the last red row (row 11) with the top star tip sitting above and bottom star arms below that row.
With one stitch sew all 7 top star tips to third row above (row 8) last red row to secure, fasten off, weave in ends.
Sew bottom star tips to blue stripe as follows:
With white yarn sew the bottom 14 star tips evenly spaced to the third round of blue stripe the same way you sewed the top tip to red stripe. Weave in ends or trim yarn where necessary.
Note: You could stop at this point and add 1 more row of Sc if you prefer a cap.
Brim: With size I hook join Red yarn to row 17 of the Blue stripe, Ch 1,
Rnd 1: Sc in same space, Sc in next sc, *2 Sc in next sc, Sc in next 8 sc, Repeat from *6 times, Sc in next sc, join with slst to first sc (73 sc)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, Sc in same space *Sc in next 9 sc, 2 Sc in next sc, repeat from * 6 times, Sc in next 2 sc, join with slst to first ch 1 (80 sc)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, *Sc in next 9 sc, 2 Sc in next sc, repeat from * 7 times, join with slst to first ch 1 (88 sc)
Rnd 4: Ch 1, Sc in same space , Sc in next 3 sc, *Sc in next 9 sc, 2 Sc in next sc, repeat from * 7 times, Sc in next 4 sc, join with slst to first ch 1 (96 sc)
Rnd 5: Ch 1, Sc in same space Sc in next 6 sc, *Sc in next 10 sc, 2 Sc in next sc, repeat from * 7 times, Sc in next sc, join with slst to first ch 1 (104 sc) Fasten off Red, Join White
Rnds 6-10: With White, Increase 8 Sc on each round as in previous rounds 4 and 5, changing the placement of increases on each round so an increase line does not develop (Round 10 =144 sc)
Fasten off White, Join Blue.
Rnds 11 - 15: With Blue, Increase 8 Sc on each round as in previous rounds 6 through 10, changing the placement of increases on each round so an increase line does not develop (Round 15 =184 sc)
Rnd 16: Holding wire or tennis string along top of last sc rnd, Sc in each st around going over string to work it in row, make sure you overlap wire ends and hide inside work, join with sl st to first sc
st. Fasten off. Weave in any loose ends.
Firecracker Duster

White Eyelash Yarn
Crochet Hook (5.5mm, US I or 9)
Gauge with size I hook: 10 sc = 3’’, 9 sc rows = 3’’Approximately 10 inches tall

With Red, Ch 36
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, Sc in each ch across, turn (35 sc)
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, Sc in each ch across, turn (35 sc)
Row 2: Work in back loops, Ch 1, Sc in each sc across, turn (35 sc)
Row 3: Repeat Row 2 (35 sc) Fasten off Red, Join White cotton
Row 4 - 6: Repeat row 2 (35 sc) Fasten off White cotton, Join Blue
Row 7 - 9: Repeat row 2 (35 sc) Fasten off Blue, leaving a 14” tail thread with a yarn needle, using a whip stitch, sew together Row 9 and the first Chain row. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Loops and Finishing: “Work in rounds”
With Blue, join yarn with a slipstitch in first stitch on one end of the tube.
Ch 1, Sc in same stitch as ch 1, Sc in the end stitch of each row around the tube and the chain row for a total of 11 sc, fasten off and weave in end.

With 1 strand of Red and 1 strand of White Eyelash held together, join yarn with a slipstitch in first stitch on the other end of the tube.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, Sc in same stitch as ch 1, Chain 12, slip stitch in next row end stitch, Repeat from * 8 times around, join with slst to first sc, Drop Red only and carry behind work.
Join Blue with a slip stitch, with Blue and White Eyelash held together go to rnd 2.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, Sc in same stitch as ch 1, Chain 14, slip stitch in middle stitch between loops of previous round, Repeat from * 8 times around, join with slst to first sc.
Rnd 3: Fasten off Blue, Pick up Red and hold with White Eyelash and repeat round 2, one more time.
Fasten White Eyelash,
Fasten off Red leaving a 8” tail, thread tail in yarn needle and stitch around opening, pull red yarn until opening closes, fasten off and trim loose ends.
Place on broom handle to remove Cobwebs from ceilings, doors, etc. You can twist the tube to give it a barber pole look as in the picture. Shake and wash when dirty.
